Urbanista Girl

Last minute Napa getaway at Senza Hotel

Food· Travel

4 Feb

I woke up on New Years day feeling a bit uneasy. The champagne and late night most likely was the cause, but I just generally felt off and not yet ready to tackle the new year. While sitting around that Sunday – we randomly decided to just getaway as we had Monday off. Within 15 minutes of our genius plan, we had booked the cutest hotel via HotelTonight (my favorite app EVER) and threw a bunch of clothes in our duffle bag and we were off to wine country!

Sometimes the best trips are the most spontaneous ones. This ended up being just that. Minutes after arriving, three amazing things happened, then just kept happening, over and over. We were greeted by the sweetest woman who handed over freshly baked cookies, informed us we were upgraded to a fire place suite (for free!), and that there was a complimentary wine and cheese hour happening in the next hour. She won me over immediately by the words free and cheese. After the warmest welcome ever, we went to our room to quickly change and take advantage of the pool & spa. After a relaxation session, we headed back to our room to find a complimentary bottle of Hall Wine waiting for us ($80 value, whaaaat?!). If this wasn’t enough to snap me out of me new year mood, there came more. We ended up having the best italian dinner and relaxing night reading by our fire, and we awoke to a knock at our door, only to find a bottle of champagne and orange juice waiting for us to make our own mimosas – courtesy of my mom as a surprise. She is seriously the best. We then followed our mimosas with fresh croissants from Bouchon Bakery in Yountville and fresh espresso.

THEN, as we’re checking out, we find out that the spectacular family of Hall Winery owns Senza Hotel, and all guests receive a free tasting at the winery in Saint Helena ($40/each value). Yep, took advantage of that too. Clearly all of these good luck omens quickly turned our new year blues away.

Heading to Napa on a whim reminded me of how lucky we are to have such amazing destinations within 1-2 hours of our city, you don’t always have to go far distances to have a memorable time. I could only hope next time we visit wine country we could be so lucky as we were on this trip! Wishful thinking 🙂
