We celebrated the 4th in Mexico with my Mom and Dad! We thought it may seem a bit silly to be celebrating the holiday weekend anywhere besides America, but the Mexicans were all for the celebrations! Our resort had tons of guests decked out in their patriotic attire, and there was even a great firework show on the beach..

HAH, are we decked out enough or what?! 🙂
We stayed at an Airbnb this time while in Cabo, the Airbnb gods were SERIOUSLY looking down on us, we couldn’t have asked for a better place, and I couldn’t believe it was booked through Airbnb. Usually we stay at the Rui Palace when in Cabo, but we’ve recently been avoiding all-inclusive resorts. I’ve stayed in Airbnb’s in other parts of Mexico, Playa del Carmen specifically, and there is definitely a trick and expertise to this. The best thing to do to guarantee a great place when booking through Airbnb in Mexico beach towns, is to only focus on listings that are on resort or condo-hotel properties. This way, the listing will usually explain what resort the property is apart of or affiliated with, and you can then do your research to see if it’s a great place or not. This tactic hasn’t failed us yet! This trip, our Airbnb was at a condo-resort called Villa La Estancia Beach Resort & Spa. Our two bedroom, 3 bath condo was steal compared to their prices on the resorts actual website, and the property had an outstanding spa and gym, multiple restaurants and bars, full service pool and beach attendants, shops, and a market. The resort was also walking distance to downtown, which to me is a must when traveling to Cabo.
We didn’t live off just Guac..I’d recommend the following for off-the-main-drag eats:
Doc Wine Bar: Great Italian food and even better wine
The Italian Job: No-frills spot, and, according to my Dad, the best Italian food he’s ever had!
Invita Bistro: Mediterranean eats with outstanding service (my favorite of the trip!)
The Office: On. Every. Cabo. List – yummy Mexican spot right on the beach. VERY touristy.
If you couldn’t tell, my family LOVES Italian food. Surprisingly, Mexico is home to many Italian expats and they all brought their delicious recipes with them!
This was a very quick trip, (2 hour, non-stop flight from Oakland on Southwest!) and I don’t have much else to report on except for lot of tequila drinking, lounging, and eating went down while in Cabo. What else are vacations for anyway?!
