We moved!! It all happened so fast, and so unexpectedly. I lived in the Inner Richmond since college, in the same apartment. Craziness, but not really, since my boyfriend and I had a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment all to ourselves – very rare in San Francisco. Actually, insanely rare. I’ve wanted to move from the Richmond basically since I moved in (haha) but the neighborhood grew on me over the years, and I learned to love its charm and fast growing restaurant and cafe scene. Not to mention, living less than a mile from the beach was an insane perk I really took advantage of. That said, I was always looking on Craigslist for a new place to call home. I’d go through phases where I’d look at multiple apartments a week, and then get disappointed and come back to it a few months later. For me, our new apartment had to be almost perfect in order for me to move from our huge space that we were getting for a very very good deal, again, for San Francisco standards. We got very close to signing a lease a few times, then I’d back out at the last minute for some reason or another – too much street noise, no parking, no dishwasher, no garbage disposal, bad lighting, the list goes on. I’m so picky. As many of you know, I have my real estate license, so I’m even more specific about the home I live in, and what I want it to be like. Since we really had no reason to move other than a nice change of pace and new neighborhood, we were able to be so specific.
Fast forward to the day after being away for two weeks for the holidays, I quickly looked at Craigslist, suddenly on a “new year, new me” kick. You know the drill, classic January vibes. When I saw the place online, I immediately knew it was mine! I (very aggressively) emailed the landlord and basically forced him to show me that night. Of course, the moment I walked in, I looked at K and loud-whispered WE’RE GETTING THIS PLACE. And yes, another couple was at the showing and I personally decided they were my competition from then on. We applied in my dark car parked outside, then ran in the application moments later. We got the acceptance call while skiing that weekend, and had to go to the tip top of Heavenly Mountain to get service to call the landlord back before our chance was up. Classic timing! We discussed it together one last time, with freezing hands on a chairlift. By the time we skied off, we had a new apartment. It’s always funny the way things work out..
We had to overlap with our old lease, so we got the keys four days later! My mom (who is a godsend) flew all the way across the country this past weekend, and we moved our whole life across the city. It was tiring, dirty, and hard. I thought I’d be sad leaving my old place that housed so many of memories, both good and bad, but I was more like “don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.” We’re settling into our beautiful new condo in the Marina, and loving every moment! I’ll be updating you guys on the interior design progress here and there, and definitely open to hearing great decor websites and style inspo!
