I betcha didn’t know about Bintan Island if you’re from the United States — I sure hadn’t! A small island off the coast of Singapore, 45 minutes by ferry, to be exact. Bintan serves as the perfect getaway from city life when visiting or living in Singapore! Bintan is home to multiple resorts, both medium to high end, with tons water activities, and spas. Oh! The best part? It’s MUCH cheaper than everything and anything in Singapore, the difference is crazy considering how close they are.
I visited the island with my team from work, bringing them here for an offsite. It was the perfect little celebration!
We took the Bintan Resorts Ferry to the island, but there are many other companies to choose from. We went with that one since our resort recommended it. I booked my tickets right on the website and we went with Emerald Class. The higher-class tickets were VERY worth it, as you board last, have big, reserved seats, and the whole outdoor back patio of the ferry to yourself. At both terminals you’ll have lounge access. Then, when you arrive, you’ll de-board first and will be first in line for customs. Getting to the dock while in Singapore took us about 30 minutes from Outram area. When we arrived on the island, I had booked transportation through the resort, and our accommodations were less than seven minutes from the dock.
We stayed at the incredible The ANMON Resort. I originally found this glamping resort while perusing Airbnb, and instantly fell in love once I looked up their site and social media profile. It was incredible!! Forget “glamping” — this was a full-on resort, with nicer “tents” than some five-star resorts I’ve been to. They took every little detail into account. Use my Airbnb code HERE for $55 off your first booking!
The food at the resort was delicious, and the chef came over to our table multiple times. We had lunch and breakfast at their main restaurant, and had an outdoor courtyard dinner. If you’re staying as a usual guest and not in a group, they’ll set up a gourmet BBQ for you at your “tent” — again, not a tent you’d imagine!
The bar creates the most magnificent cocktails I’ve ever seen.. think roasted marshmallow moscow mules, fresh mango tequila drinks in gorgeous glasses, and fire-y old fashions, and thats only naming a few! They also make their own infused gin. This was a total highlight, and super affordable at around $6 USD for these delicious drinks.
During the day, enjoy the blue lagoon that ANMON sits next to, a manmade lagoon that pumps and purifies fresh sea water into it. Here you’ll be able to do any water activity you could think of — kayaking, water skiing, waterslide, floating adventure park, and much more. It was the best, and the lagoon is just incredible to see, photos don’t do it justice.
Late afternoon, we booked a sunset cruise which took us all around the island on a small yacht. Think beer, sunsets, and music. It was a BLAST! You can book these through multiple different tour companies, but our concierge took care of all the coordination for us.
Before leaving back to Singapore, make sure you check out the massage options nearby the resort. You can get a 90-minute massage with hot stone for less than $20 USD. Incredible. You know I was THERE when I heard about this!
After visiting Bintan in Indonesia, Bali is next on my list. 🙂
